- The vital records of Marlborough differ on all three death dates from the gravestone even though it cites "G.S.". (Oddly, the abbreviations on p. 4 don't list "G.S.", and "G.S.4" should have been used for Brigham Cemetery.) As the Marlborough VRs and the Marlborough Inscriptions were published about the same time (1908), they should have been looking at the same gravestone, and it was clearly misreported in the VRs. Rather, it appears that the compilers of the Marlborough VRs decided the age-at-death on the gravestone was reliable, but not the date, and adjusted the reported death dates accordingly. While this is disappointing from an integrity standpoint, this situation requiring some explanatory note at least, nevertheless, rejecting the death dates appears justifiable. All are off by at least a year, based on age-at-death and the recorded birth dates. Most damaging is that of Laura Ann, as the death date of 1819 is impossible, given that a second daughter named Laura Ann was recorded as born in 1813 and lived to marry (History of Brigham Family, as well as Massachusetts Vital Records 1741-1910, says she d. in Oakham 1897 age 84). This may suggest the gravestone was put up considerably after the fact of the actual deaths, based on memory or a defective record? Regardless of what the explanation is, it is clear that the year of death on the gravestone cannot be relied on.
