Kathryn A. Weiker, 81, of Fremont died Friday morning at her residence whi le surrounded by her family.

Weiker was born in Windber, Pa., to Henry and Carrie (Ickes) Walter and mo ved to OH shortly thereafter. Weiker was a graduate of Tiffin Columbi an High School and also attended Nyack Bible College Nyack, N.Y.

In 1946, she married Clayton Weiker, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1 0, 2003.

She began her teaching career in 1959 as a weekday religious education tea cher and taught Bible classes for grades 2 through 6. Kathryn received a f ull scholarship from the OH Council of Church Women in 1960 to attend Ob erlin College.

In 1967, she was hired to teach the fourth grade at Stamm School when t he weekday Bible classes program was terminated. She attended summer scho ol at Heidelberg College each summer and took a leave of absence to stu dy for a year in 1971.

Kathryn received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 and returned to Stamm S chool, where she served on various committees. She was F.E.A. representati ve, secretary of the PTO, and served as chairwoman for their annual Chi li Supper for many years. She was also surrogate principal for 8 years.

She also served as director and worker in Vacation Bible Schools and taug ht Sunday school for about 40 years. She has also been Memorial Church's L ay Delegate to the Annual Conference for 16 years. She volunteered for ma ny years at Memorial Hospital in Fremont along with many of the local nurs ing homes.

She took post-graduate courses at Toledo University and Bowling Green Sta te University.

Kathryn enjoyed needlework, quilting and had bowled in many area league

Survivors include daughter Shirley (Terry) Shanahan; sons, Richard (Joyc e) Weiker, Philip (Pat) Weiker, and Jon (Rose) Weiker, all of Fremont.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great- grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; as well as sisters, Rhea M yers and Shirley Munson, both of Fremont; and a brother, Richard (Ruth) Wa lters. Along with her husband and parents, a brother, Morris Walter, a nd a sister, Roma Springer, also preceded Kathryn in death.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Churc h, 1441 Fangboner Road, where the body will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. un til the time of the service, with Rev. Duane Smith and Rev. Robert Campbe ll officiating.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at t he Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch St.

Burial: Greenlawn Memorial Garden

Memorials: In Kathryn's name to be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, L earning and Liberty Foundation or to the Hayes Memorial United Methodist C hurch Choir.
