    Katharine (Foster), b. 21 Aug.; bapt. 23 Aug., 1696.

Pierce lists a second daughter of the same name (Catherine, b. Lebanon, Conn.; m. there Daniel Calkins. Res., Lebanon, Conn.). Apparently, there is no independent evidence of this second Katherine/Catherine, leading one to conclude that Mr. Pierce was somewhat confused by the Foster/Calkins connection.

… Catherine Foster … daughter of Daniel Foster and Mary Dresser. She was born 21 Aug 1696 in Topsfield, Essex, MA [according to published vital records, born at Ipswich 21 Aug 1696, baptized at Topsfield 23 Aug 1696], and died Abt. 1740.

  5. Ipswich/Topsfield vital records have Katherine born and baptized in August 1696. Katherine (Freese) Foster, according to Ipswich vital records, died in March 1694/95. Daniel Foster and Mary Dresser were married, according to Rowley vital records, in December of 1696. The disconnect in the various dates strongly indicates that at least one is incorrect. Although Katherine is generally attributed to Mary Dresser, it is possible that she was the daughter of Daniel's first wife, Katherine Freese.
