Katherine Irene Headley and her twin sister, Marie, were born on May 8, 1910, at the family home in Dodge Township to Joseph and Mary (Holly) Fibikar. She graduated from 8th grade at Dodge 13 country school. She worked on the family farm until moving to California where she worked for Goodyear Tire until called home by her father's failing health.
On September 25, 1929, she married Lawrence Headley at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone. They were the parents of three children: Donald, LaMerle, and Delores. They first lived on a small acreage behind Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Lawrence worked as a mechanic and they had a milk delivery route. In 1935, they moved into West Boone so Lawrence could be closer to his work as a mechanic "on call 24 hours a day" there. They purchased the family farm in Dodge Township in 1940 and later the adjacent farm, which was Katherine's homeplace. After her husband's death in 1950, she and the children continued the dairy and farming operation. Over the years, she worked part time at Woolworths, Ben Franklins, Boone Blank Book, Green Giant, and she worked for people in their homes. She was in charge of funeral dinners at her church for several years.
Katherine moved into town in 1978. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society. Her interests included family, gardening, animals, and needlework.
