1933 May 28: P. R. Elmore Is Honored at Party

 Mrs. P[orter]. R[owland]. Elmore was hostess with a surprise birthday party in honor of Mr. Elmore at their home, 2005 Filmore Street.
 The entertaining rooms were attractively decorated with pink and white roses with the same colors featured in the appointments of the refreshment course.
 Games of bridge were introduced for entertainment with high scores going to Mrs. Floyd Hillin and Mr. Elmore, and consolation prizes to Mrs. Ray Roth and John Gray.  Galloping prizes went to Mrs. W. E. Laughter.
 Guests included Mesdames Ray Roth, Ivy Wilkinson [Kate], W. E. Laughter, Eva Peake, M. E. Wilkinson [Porter's grandmother]; Messrs. 1940 Feb. 20: She Heard "Gone With the Wind"--Mrs. Kate Dennard, 80 years old and mother of Mrs. Ivy Wilkinson, 2004 Taylor Street, lost her sight about 15 years ago. She learned to read Braille and finished the book, "Gone With the Wind," in three weeks. Manager Fred Patterson of the State Theater invited Mrs. Dennard down to see the picture, which ends its run here Thursday night, and Mrs. Dennard accepted. Although she couldn't see the action, Mrs. Wilkinson said her mother enjoyed the picture just as much as she herself did. "I told her what was on the screen at various time," said Mrs. Wilkinson. "She enjoyed the picture just as much as the book." The above picture shows Mrs. Dennard reading part of the book. 1940 June 19: Mrs. Wilkinson Suffers Burns

 Mrs. Ivy Wilkinson, 2004 Taylor Street, was reported "resting comfortably" at Northwest Texas hospital last night after having been burned by flaming gasoline as she stood in the rear of her home.
 Mrs. Wilkinson was watching her husband, a Potter County deputy sheriff, and her 15-year-old son, Steve, as they attempted to start the family car about 7:45 o'clock last night.  The boy was pouring gasoline from a bucket into the carburetor when the auto backfired through the carburetor and ignited the gas.
 The boy threw the burning gas out of the bucket, accidentally showering his mother with it.  Mrs. Wilkinson received first degree burns on her arms and legs.  She was taken to the hospital in a Blackburn-Shaw ambulance.  --Amarillo (TX) Daily News; page image from NewspaperArchive.com

 Mrs. Ivy Wilkinson, 2004 Taylor Street, who suffered severe burns Tuesday night when a bucket of burning gasoline accidentally was thrown on her, was reported by Northwest Texas hospital attendants as "doing well" last night.
 Mrs. Wilkinson, the wife of Potter County Deputy Sheriff Ivy Wilkinson, was watching her husband and her son, Steve, attempting to start the family auto by pouring gas into the carburetor.  When the car backfired through the carburetor, the gas was ignited and was accidentally thrown on Mrs. Wilkinson. 1940 August 4: Heart Attack Following Burns Fatal to Mrs. Ivy Wilkinson

 Mrs. Kate Wilkinson, wife of Deputy Sheriff Ivy Wilkinson, died late last night in a local hospital of complications resulting from burns received seven weeks ago.
 Attendants said Mrs. Wilkinson suffered a heart attack Friday night.  For the past several days her condition had been considered as gradually improving.
 Mrs. Wilkinson was burned at her home when gasoline used to prime a balky automobile motor ignited.  Her son and husband were attempting to start the motor by priming.  When the fuel exploded the son tossed it away to prevent its hitting the car.  Mrs. Wilkinson was sweeping a nearby sidewalk.  The burning gasoline ignited her clothing.
 Mr. Wilkinson put out the flames within a few moments.  Mrs. Wilkinson was severely burned about the legs.  Although the burns were severe, they were not considered critical.
 Mrs. Wilkinson was 44 years old.  She had lived in Amarillo many years.  She was active in the Eastern Star and other organizations.
 Survivors include the husband, the son, Steve, and the mother, Mrs. Kate Dinnard, who had made her home with her daughter for many years.

1940 Aug. 6: Mrs. Ivy Wilkinson Rites Held Here

 Final tribute to the memory of Mrs. Ivy Wilkinson, 44-year-old Amarillo woman, was paid in services held yesterday afternoon at the Blackburn-Shaw chapel.  Dr. C. C. Grimes, pastor of the Polk Street Methodist Church, officiated.
 Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
 Mrs. Wilkinson died in an Amarillo hospital late Saturday night of complications which resulted from burns suffered seven weeks ago when a bucket of flaming gasoline was accidentally thrown on her.  She had lived in Amarillo many years and was active in the Eastern Star and other organizations.
 Survivors are her husband, a Potter County deputy sheriff; a son, Steve; and her mother, Mrs. Kate Dinnard, who has made her home with her daughter for a number of years.  --Amarillo (TX) Daily News; page image from NewspaperArchive.com
