Facts and Events
Karl might be described by the old cliche, tall, dark and handsome, as it fitted him well. Karl had a penchant for music and while still very young he longed for a violin. He knew if he had one he could learn to play and so he got a few commonplace things together and made a violin at the sheep camp. He used a large baking powder can for the body, carved a piece of wood for the neck and pegs. He made the strings out of sheep gut and got the hair for the bow from a horses tail. He cut scrolls on each side of the bridge. When it was completed it looked and sounded very sweet (according to his mother). He learned to play while hearding sheep. Eventually, his father bought him a real violin and he did learn to play very well, much to the enjoyment of the townspeople. Sometimes he played for dances. He served many years in Lakeside Ward as song leader and choir director. He went on a mission to New England for two years and upon his return, married Erma Hansen. _FSFTID: KWZ3-1QB References
