Gleaner Jan 29, 1878 Obituary provided by Rhonda Ray: DEATHS AND FUNERALS MRS. JULIA PAYNE SHARPE Belmont, Aug. 26. -- Mrs. Julia Payne Sharpe, 94, a resident of the Belmont Community for more than 70 years, died at the home of a son, Clyde C. Sharpe, Route 6, Burlington, last night at 10:30 o'clock after six years of failing health and three weeks of critical illness. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Anderson and Mary Blackard Payne and the wife of the late Albert W. Sharpe. She was a member of Belmont Methodist Church. Mrs. Sharpe is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joe Neese Route 1, Graham; three sons, Lewis W. Sharpe and Clyde C. Sharpe, Route 6, Burlington, and Clete P. Sharpe, Route 2, Graham; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Belmont Methodist Church with Rev. R. Z. Newton, pastor, and Rev. W. M. Loy, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body was removed to the home near Belmont late this afternoon and will lie in state at the church from 2:30 o'clock until 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
Final rites for Mrs. Julia Payne Sharpe, 94, Burlington Route 6, were held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Belmont Methodist Church. Rev. R. Z. Newton, pastor of the church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. W. M. Loy. Special music was provided by the church choir and a duet composed of Mrs. Ralph Wood and Mrs. J. G. Holt, Jr., Mrs. Clay W. Holt was pianist. Mrs. Sharpe was a member of the Belmont Methodist Church. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Lawrence, Albert, Ned, Howard and Clete Sharpe, Jr., and C. W. Morris. Mrs. Howard Pickett was in charge of the flowers. Flower bearers included Mesdames Harvey Simmons, Howard Sharpe, C. W. Morris, Albert Sharpe, Lawrence Sharpe, Ned Sharpe, Hulan Kimbrough, E. G. Gladden, Grady Fogleman, James Stanfield, C. P. Sharpe, Jr., Reid Brown, Wallace Lockamy, J. G. Holt, Jr., J. P. King, Jr., Walter Neese, Carroll Neese, and Misses Mattie Belle Cook, Corena Sharpe, Faye Jean Welch, Carleen Kimbrough and Mary Caviness References
