Graveside services for Joyce and James McLuen will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa.

Joyce Eileen McLuen passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, in Sarasota, Fla.

Joyce was born May 20, 1931, to Cleady and Ruth Landals in Perry, Iowa and had been married more than 50 years to James McLuen. Following Joyce’s death, Jim returned to Indianola and passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2016.

Joyce attended Drake University in the early 1950s she then worked for the Department of Natural Resources in the fish hatchery keeping their books and managing the office. She loved working with her hands creating latch hook decor, painting and working with sequins. --- James William McLuen was born June 9, 1932, in Burke, S.D. to Kenneth and Bertha McLuen.

James graduated from Ashton High School in Ashton, Iowa, where he excelled in sports. He then attended Drake University in Des Moines and was a graduate of Drake University College of Pharmacy. He served in the United States Army and in 1958 he went to work for Burkey Drug in Indianola and purchased the business in 1966 and named it McLuen Drug. He retired when he sold the business to his brother Ed.

He and Joyce wintered in Florida and spent their summers at Lake Panorama near Panora, Iowa. They were one of the first homesteaders around the lake. Jim enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing. He had served on the board of directors of Peoples Trust & Savings Bank starting in 1979.

They are survived by Jim’s brother Robert (Ethel) McLuen; sister Marianne Richey and their sister-in-law Dru McLuen and many other relatives. Preceding them in death were their parents and Jim’s brother Ed. Online condolences may be made at www.overtonfunerals.com.
