Enlisted 28 Jan 1777 as a private in Capt. William Vance's Company, Wood's 12th Virginia Regt. of Foot. Transferred Jun 1778 to Col. James Wood's Company of Foot (composed of 4th, 8th, & 12th Regts.). Discharged 11 Apr 1779. Fought at Boston, Quebec, and Germantown, and was present at Burgoyne's surrender. Wintered at Valley Forge. Fought at Monmouth and Bertheson Bay.
