    Mrs. Josephine Kirby-Smith Fayerweather, a long-time resident of Kawela Bay, died Friday in Providence, R.I., where she was living with her daughter and son-in-law, F. Hazen Carr, formerly of Kauai.

    Born October 11, 1878, Mrs. Fayerweather was the daughter of General Edmund and Mrs. Cassie Kirby-Smith of Sewanee, Tenn.

    A graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Mrs. Fayerweather will be buried beside her husband, the late Dr. Rhodes Fayerweather, in Oahu Cemetery.

    Surviving are her daughter, Kirby F. Carr of Providence, R.I.; a brother, Dr. Reynold Kirby-Smith of Sewanee, Tenn.; sister, Mrs. Nina Buck of Winnetka, Ill.; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
