Alta Woodside James wrote about her grandfather , Joseph Linton Woodside who was about 70 when she was born. "Grandpa was a stanch Republican and he loved to engage in conversation , especially a good argument . He dared anyone to go near his grape vineyard ,for fear they might ruin the vines. Too, he loved the apple tree, the tangled blackberry patch, the watermelons and his old cot, placed in the shade under his favorite pecan tree. This is where he spent much of his time dreaming of days gone by. As far as Grandpa was concerned , saucers were made for drinking , to many baths weakened the body, clothes shouldn't be washed to often as it would wear them out.. He hated having his room cleaned , it just stired up the dust. And as for that "new fangled tolit tissue, its thin consistency would never replace the more sturdy sheets of the mail order catalogue.

This old gentleman believed in eating three square meals a day, to keep his stomac in good order. And this he did until the age of 89 , when he died peacefully in his home on his 160 acre farm, a mile or so to the west of Wellston Ok. The family moved here around 1900 from Clay Center KS

All their possessions were in the wagon, while the boys drove the cattle along besid the wagon. The family lived in a barn untill a house could be built.
