    4 Sep 1854: Inventory of the Estate of Joseph Whitman, late of Hopkinton, by S. D. Davenport, Silas Mirick, N. P. Coburn: $3655.75. [note: Nathan Parker Coburn eventually married the widow]
    5 Sep 1854: Memorial of William Claflin of Hopkinton that "Joseph Whitman, Clerk, who last dwelt in Hopkinton within three months last died intestate ... leaving a widow and three children all of whom are minors". Bonded the same date.
    30 Jun 1857: Accounting of William Claflin, assented to by Eleanor Whitman for herself, and as guardian "of Lucy E. Mary C. and Joseph E. Whitman".

    Rev. Joseph Whitman, Jr., s/o Joseph Whitman and Lucy Parks, b. Stowe, Mass., 15 Feb 1811, d. 8 Aug 1854, m. 13 Aug 1840 Eleanor Wheeler, s/o Elisha Wheeler of Concord. Three children: Lucy Eleanor Whitman, Mary Claflin Whitman, and Joseph Elisha Whitman. Licensed to preach 23 Feb 1837, Hubbardston 1839-1841, Fitchburg to 1843, Mendon and Medfield, then to South Boston 1844, East Boston 1846, Milford 1848, health problems developing in 1850, but after rest, elected to Massachusetts Senate in 1853, and moved to Hopkinton 1854 where he died.
