    "17. Joseph3 Waterman (Thomas2, Robert1), born at Norwich, Conn., 15 Jan. 1685/6, died there 28 Oct. 1778; …

Joseph and his family attended the First Church of Norwich, where Rev. John Woodward was pastor, and their children were baptized there. They are undoubtedly buried in the Norwich Town Burying Ground, but no stones can now be found to mark their resting place.

In December 1713, Joseph was chosen hayward for the ensuing year. A hayward was an officer whose duty it was to impound animals running at large. In 1717, he was fence viewer, in 1719, lister, and in December 1727 he was chosen as one of the grand-jurymen."
