In 1763 there was a Jacques (may have been Jacques-Joseph) THERIOT with wife and 2 children listed as prisoners at Halifax. He was son of Joseph (deceased by 1766) & Francoise MELANCON, who were also listed with 6 children at Halifax. Francoise MELANCON was on the 1766 census of LA with two sons [?]. Five of the six children at Halifax are known to have reached LA.

Joseph TERRIOT, born 1699, son of Pierre & Marie BOURG, married at Grand Pré on 14 Oct 1725 to Francoise MELANSON, daughter of Pierre & Marie BLANCHARD of Grand Pré; eleven children listed. Joseph was at Isle St. Jean in 1752, and in Louisiana in 1766 [sic].

    On p. 2594 (Louisiana), Joseph TERRIOT's wife's name is spelled MELANCON; there are twelve children listed [Francois, born 1753 is listed before Xavier in 1754--probably same child?]. Joseph died before 1766, when his widow was at Saint James, on the Mississippi, with several of their children.

Married to Francoise MELANCON, native of l'Acadie, age 44 years; seven children, five sons and two daughters, age 21 to 1 year. They have livestock: 2 oxen, 2 cows, 1 heifer, 1 calf, 2 sows, 1 pig. The land on which they are settled is situated on the north side of the Riviere du Ouest, and was given to them verbally by Monsieur de BONNAVENTURE; ready to sow 4 bushels of wheat. But they will leave this locality to go to Bedecq to live, leaving this lot to Charles HENRY, son-in-law.
