Death of Daniel P. Sullivan
Was for Several Years Street Commissioner of Lowville and Also Commissioner of Highways
Daniel P. Sullivan, who had been confined to the house a greater part of the time since May 22nd last, died at four o'clock Tuesday morning. His condiiton had been such for some time that but little hope was entertained for his recovery. Mr. Sullivan was a son of the late Daniel Sullivan, and was born in Boonville, March 17, 1841. At the age of 13 years he came to Lowville, where he has since resided. During the past nine years he has served continuously as street commissioner, which position he also held for two or three years previously. Several years ago he was elected commissioner of highways and served two terms. Mr. Sullivan was a good citizen, an upright, hard-working man, and strove to deal fairly with the public in the positions he occupied.
In February 1864, the deceased was united in marriage with Bridget Dunnigan, of Lowville, who died January 18, 1875, and for his second wife, Anna Dunnigan, on June 20, 1880, who died November 18, 1891. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Nellie Bartholomew and Miss Mollie Sullivan of Lowville. A son, Joseph, died June 14, 1875 at the age of three years. Five sisters also survive. Mrs. Catherine O'Keefe, Mrs. Henry Dunnigan, Mrs. Michael O'Neil and Miss Julia Sullivan, all of Lowville, and Mrs. John Conway of Utica. The funeral services will be held from St. Peter's Catholic Church to-morrow (Friday) morning at 10 o'clock.
