Facts and Events
Joseph Silvester, born April 12, 1638 in Weymouth, Suffolk, Mass and Mary Barstow, born December 28, 1641 in Dedham, Norfolk, Mass were his parents. The name is SILVESTER, or more, properly, SYLVESTER, according to Savage. From Mayflower Descendant By means of the town records of births and deaths, the church records of baptisms, gravestone records at Plymouth, and the joint will of Joseph and Hannah Silvester, we find that they had eight children, six of whom married and had issue... On 1 November, 1734, Joseph and Hannah (Bartlett) Silvester united in a very unusual proceeding. They made a joint will, which could not take effect until after the death of both husband and wife. Such wills are very rarely met with in the records, and in the present case the probate proceedings contain nothing to determine which of the joint testators died first. We only know that neither of the testators was living on 4 March, 1754, the day the joint will was probated... The witnesses were Elisha Holmes (by a mark), Josiah Morton and Elisha Holmes, Jr. References
