1884 - Enlisted with Seaforth Highlanders at Fort George as a private at the age of 18 years 3 months. He was a baker, born at Edenbridge, Kent and had previously served in the 5th Battalion Royal Fusiliers but had been rejected by the Royal Marines as he was under the height required. He was described as 5 feet 4 1/2 inches, 120 lbs, chest measures 33 inches, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, scar on left elbow, Church of England religion. Passed fit for service on 8th April.

1885-1894 - Served in the East Indies.

1887 - Appointed Lance Corporal on 27 April.

1888-1891 - Involved in Hazara Campaign in India at the North-West frontier with Seaforth Highlanders.

1889 - Promoted to sergeant on 2 March.

1894-1899 - Served in United Kingdom.

1899 - Discharged from Seaforth Highlanders on 10 March having served for a total of 14 years 337 days.

1901 - Attestation for Short Service with Royal Garrison Regiment: Joseph Hy PEACOCK, born at Edenbridge, Kent, aged 35, baker, widower, formerly served with Seaforth Highlanders, signed at Aldershot on 4th May. He was described as 5 feet 7 1/2 inches, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, scar on left elbow, Church of England religion.

1904 - Discharged from Royal Garrison Regiment at Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

1911 - With second wife and son in shared residence at 7 Seven Star St, Dover, Kent. Joseph Harry PEACOCK, baker, aged 44, born at Edenbridge, Kent.
