Not sure about this: Joseph was found to be in the Lucas County Infirmary at the time of the 1880 census. His wife was living with their daughter, Lizzie and family in Toledo.

He came with his family to the United States in 1856 according to the 1900 census.

He died of dropsy: retention of water in tissues and cavities which can be caused by heart disease, kidney disease or cirrhosis of the liver, etc.
