High School Boy Is Drowned When Boat Capsizes

Milwaukee, Wis. -- Joseph Opat, 19, local high school student, was drowned and a companion, Henry Metternick, 16, narrowly escaped a similar fate when the small boat in which they were rowing capsized in Lake Michigan, near Jones Island here last night.

The boys set out to test their small boat and skirted about the rocks of Jones Island, keeping the craft righted as they rowed over the rough waves.

Finally the boat struck a rock which they had not seen and capsized. Metternick managed to swim to shore, but Opat, who was unable to swim, sank almost immediately according to Metternick.
