On 11 August 1688 he was mentioned as son in the will of Henry Neal of Braintree. Joseph & Mary Neale were admitted to Braintree Church 12 September 1697. He was elected selectman 1699-1708, 1710-13 and 1715; fenceviewer in 1709, surveyor of highways in 1720. He served on a committee to set up a school house in the South Precinct in 1716, and a committee to select the proprietors of New Braintree in 1719. He lived on part of his father's land, Adams St., Quincy about opposite Common St. The will of Joseph Neale is dated 13 March 1733, proved 3 January 1737/1738. Inventory was taken 13 February 1737/1738, and includes: Homestead 60 a. Ð1400, 8 a. salt marsh, 4 1/2 a. at Stony Field, 30 a. woodland South Precinct & land at New Braintree, Ð2625/19/5. The will provides: To son Joseph all housing & land in Braintree except as in will. To dau. Mary Humphrey Ð45 besides the equivalent of Ð45 already given. To dau. Hannah Neale Ð90, 50 to be given at marriage. To dau. Elizabeth Neale Ð90 and dau. Lydia Neale Ð90 as to Hannah. To grand dau. Mary Humphrey 1 cow at marriage. To wife Mary use & improvement of the house except the E. end, and Joseph to use any part he needs except the middle chamber, & she to have all moveables etc. & 3 cows etc. & Joseph to find her firewood etc. Wife Mary & Joseph Neale executors, but she renounced executorship.
