notes from Cathy Lenning: Possible Joseph sitings

1) 1850 PA census - a Joseph Lenning living with Mary in Philadelphia(Kensington)

(wrong wife). Several other Lenning's were also living in Phi atthe time.

2) a Joseph Lenning arrived in New York on 10 June 1852 on the ship"Franklin King" from Liverpool. Listed as age 25, a farmer/mechanicfrom Ireland (although most everyone was listed as a farmer/mechanicfrom Ireland so I'm not so sure ). No one was traveling with him andhis destination was listed as USA. He was the very last entry in themanifest upon arrival. Ref - Germans to America by Filby Ge 929.13 G315(p.41 of Vol 3).

3) 1860 Ind census - a number of Lenning's were living in one householdin Posey Co, Ind. (this is the furtherest south county). No Joseph'sbut one of the heads of the house was named Charles (he was a grocer andwas 33). May be relatives (brother??).

4) Family TreeMaker search on Joseph Lenning shows one in each of thefollowing -

   1800 Ohio census
   1850 PA census
   1870 New York City census

Thoughts on continued searching for Joseph or Charles' siblings

   a) Indiana civil war records - may find out where Joseph was living
   b) Follow through other Lenning obits - may mention relationships toCharles
      start with Posey Co. ones
   c) Talk to Betty Stahl for any more info on Annie Long or Charles'siblings
   d) Look up James and Mary (Lenning) Maxwell in DeKalb Co 1860Indiana census. Joseph may have been living with them. - foundcensus entry 9/23/98 in Seattle Nat'l Archives, no mention ofJoseph, just James, Mary and 3 children.
