Private Cyril Label was enlisted into the Army for the Civil War by Lieut Co. J. Stees, G. Co. of the 6th Regiment of Minn. Infantry at St. Paul, MN on the 13th day of August, 1862 to serve 3 years. Unfortunately, he spent much of that time in the hospital until he was discharged in April, 1864 with a thirty percent disability due to the loss of a great toe which made him unfit for marching and military duty. [BO:Company Muster Roll Records:BO]: According to military records from the U.S. National Archives obtained and provided to me by Sue Picard, "Ceril Labelle" is listed in the Company Muster Roll on Oct 1, 1862 as "Joined for duty and enrolled" at Camp Release, Minn., and is "present" in the Oct 31, and Nov & Dec, 1862 Muster Rolls as a Pvt. in Co. G. of the 6th Minnesota Infantry. However, in the Jan & Feb, 1863 Company Muster Roll he is listed as "absent" with remarks that he was "on sick leave in St. Paul. Thereafter, throughout 1863 he is listed in the Company Muster Roll as "absent" with the remark that he was "Left at Ft. Snelling sick in the Hospital Feb 17, 1863. In the Nov & Dec , 1863 Muster Roll, he is listed in both the Rolls for Co. G. and in a new Detachment Muster Roll for the "Unassigned". He now is listed as Cyril LaBelle and is recorded to have been transferred from Co. G. of the 6th Minnesota Infantry to the Invalid Corps Nov 18, 1863. The Jan & Feb Muster Roll for Co. G repeats this and adds that he is transferred by Gen'l Order from the War Dept. No. 370, and it is signed by Copyist, Murphy. Remarks for the Mar & Apr, 1864 Unassigned Detachment Muster Roll state: "Discharged on Surgeons Certificate of disability by command of Maj. Gen'l Pope and final statement given Apr 28/64. A final Muster-Out Roll, dated Ft. Snelling Minn, Aug 19, 1865 (the 5 is difficult to read) remarks that Ceril Labelle was transferred to Act. Res. Corps by S.O. No. 370 War Dept. Nov 18/63; signed by Copyist, Murphy. The [BO:Surgeon's Report :BO] of the examination of an enlisted man for transfer to the Invalid Corps is dated Sept 18th, 1863 and reports as follows: "I certify that I chave carefully examined Cyril LaBelle, who is a Private in the Co. G 6th Regt Infty and find him incapable of performing active field duty, because of a Loss of great toe of left foot which impedes Marching.[IT: Disability one third:IT] but that he is fit for garrison duty; his physical condition being such as will not disqualify him from serving in the Invalid Corps under the provisions of General Order No. 730 War Department, A. G. O. May 15, 1863. Signed: Thos. R. Potts, Surgeon of the Board of Enrollment. Station: Fort Snelling, Minn. Date: Sept 19th, 1863.
