- Letter from Catholic Charities Bureau:
Alonzo Carpenter alias Joseph Hughey, born August 15, 1868, and a resident of Bridgeport, Illinois, was admitted to St. Vincent's Orphan Asylum on October 13, 1874. His guardian was his father, William Hughey. He was released to Mr. Byrne of North Vernon on March 8, 1881. He was baptized at the Asylum, but I am unable to find the date of baptism. (We were told that they gave them an alias when they went into the orphanage.)
