  2. There is a gravestone in Dummerston Hill Cemetery for Joseph Holland Jr. that is claimed by the text portion to show a death on 28 Oct 1846, no attempt to interpret the age at death. The corresponding Vermont Vital Record transcribed from the gravestone says died 28 Oct 1816, age 47. It appears by visual inspection to say either 28 Oct 1846, age 47; or 28 Oct 1816, age 17; depending entirely on whether the 1's are 1's or 4's (only the barest of shadows supports the case for the 4's). Either way it appears to be this Joseph, b. 1799.

We can rule out some possibilities. It is not the father Joseph, nor the son Joseph dying in 1816, because both appear to be listed in the 1830 census next to each other. That there is a marriage in 1824 to Serena Arnold suggests it says 28 Oct 1846, age 47, but it does not agree with the date given here in either case.
