Joseph4 Harris, b. 1 March 1691, son of Daniel Harris, Jr., of Middletown, Connecticut, … and Abigail Barnes, … He d. in August 1723 at Litchfield. … Joseph Harris was from Middletown, Connecticut, and owned a 1/60th right in the early settlement of Litchfield to which he removed shortly after marriage. … In 1723 Mr. Harris was killed by Indians while plowing in his field near the north end of what was afterward called Harris Plain, where the road turns to Milton. His was the first death among the settlers, and, in 1830, a monument was erected by the citizens of Litchfield to perpetuate his memory. (Woodruff's Residents of Litchfield,, p. 103.)"

Page 110—2 March, 1741-2: Asa Hopkins and Abigail Harris, alias Hopkins, the wife of sd. Asa Hopkins, acknowledged before this Court that they have received of Stephen Sedgewick, guardian to the sd.
