(Research):resided in Wickham Green and Birmingham, occupation Gardener. Royal West Surrey Regt. Won the M.M. in 1918 during WW 1 "for keeping on to his work at a Lewis gun for two days after being wounded in the left leg. He was the only survivor of nine men. Later also wounded in the right leg"

Possibly had a child called i Richard DURLING, b. -- --- 1916, d. 13 FEB 1944 in Italy, occupation Golf Pro. Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed at village of Caira near to Monte Castellino in WW2 on 13 Feb 1944. Had been assistant golf pro to Henry Cotton at Langley Park Golf Club. We do not know that his father was Joseph - it might have been Arthur, Herbert or Sydney. He married unknown (=R.DURLING).
