From the February 22, 1960, edition of the Freeport (IL) Journal-Standard Joseph Crane HANOVER -- Joseph Crane of Hanover died at 11 pm Sunday in an Iowa City, Iowa, hospital, where he had been a patient for five weeks. He was born Dec. 23, 1897, in Garry[owen], Iowa, the son of Martin and Ellen McDonald Crane. He married Hannah Ehlinger Nov. 21, 1919, in Lemars, Iowa. They lived in Iowa until 1943 when they moved into Hanover. He was employed at the Savanna Ordinance Depot. Crane was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and its Holy Name society. A veteran of World War I, he was the second commander of the Hanover VFW Post. Surviving are his wife; his mother, Mrs. Ellen Crane, Maquoketa, Iowa; a son, Paul, Warren; one daughter, Mrs. Bertrand Sullivan, Hanover; a sister, Miss Mary Crane, Maquoketa; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 9 am Thursday in the Nadig Funeral Home and at 9:30 am in St. John's Catholic Church, the Rev. John Kilduff, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 pm Wednesday in the funeral home, where friends may call after 7 pm Tuesday. |
