12 Aug 1839: Sally Butterfield, "widow of Joseph Butterfield 2'd late of Tyngsborough in the County of Middlesex aforesaid yeoman deceased intestate" releases right to administer the estate and requests Luther Butterfield of Tyngsborough. also Emeline Pierce "a daughter and one of the heirs of the above named Jos. Butterfield 2'd" releases right to administer in favor of Luther Butterfield, signed Emeline Pierce, Alexis Pierce.
13 Aug 1839: Memorial of "Luther Butterfield of Tyngsborough" represents that "Joseph Butterfield 2'd who last dwelt in Tyngsborough ... within three months last died intestate ... leaving a widow & children - that said widow & the oldest of the children Emeline wife of Alexis Pierce (the other children all being minors) have waived their right to administer & have requested that your Peti'r may be appointed to that trust. Luther Butterfield of Tyngsborough bonded the same date.
13 Aug 1839: Inventory exhibited and recorded.
2 Jun 1840: After widow's allowance and expenses, estate not sufficient to pay just debts, petition to sell land.
7 Dec 1841: Accounting of Luther Butterfield approved.
