    In 1861, he enlisted in Co. E, 11th Texas Cavalry. He served west of the River, then returned in 1863 and joined the Army of Tennessee. He then returned to Texas and served in the coast guard to the end of the War. In 1881, he represented Red River County in the Texas House of Representatives.
