Joseph Blanchard's burial record appears to say "manouvrier acadien". which could mean he was a seasonal laborer (usually agricultural). However, this is also close to the word manoeuvrier which is a ship's pilot (is it a spelling variation?). Robichaux lists him as a seaman upon his arrival at Saint-Malo in 1759 and the church of Saint-Jacques is a few hundred meters from the shore of the Loire river or the Sevre Nantaise, a good neighborhood for a sailor to live in.
