"Jonathan Morgan was born about 1680, perhaps at New London, Connecticut. He could fit easily into the family of Richard and Hopestill (Merrick) Rosemorgie of New London, some of whose children used the surname Morgan. Jonathan was admitted to the church at Montville, known then as the North Parish of New London, on 14 April 1723 and his wife 'Juda' two weeks later, on 28 April. …
On 2 November 1750 Jonathan named his wife 'Mabell Morgin' in his will. He also mentions two sons, Jonathan and Caleb, and six daughters, Sarah Mane, Susannah Handerson, Elisabeth Chapman, Abigail Right, Phebe Right, and finally, in a separate clause, Judah Shove. Considering their baptismal and marriage dates it seems probable they were named in birth order in the will. Only Judah received a specific individual legacy, £100, while her sisters received the 'remaining part of [the] estate both real and personal.'"
