    Whereas Capt. Jonathan Knight of Providence in the Colony of Rhoad Island and Providence Plantations in New England; who departed this Life the 25th of June - 1717 - Dyed Intestate: and Left Considerable of moveable Esstate behind him which by the Law of this Colony fell into the Care of the Towne Council of Providence afore said And where as Jonathan Knight son and Heire of the said deceased Jonathan Knight hath Exhebited and Inventory of the Esstate of his said deceaced father unto the Towne Council of said Providence afore said which was accepted by said Towne Council and hath also declared his willingness to take a Letter of Administration whereby he mought Lawfully administer there on: and hath given in sufficiant bond for his true and faithfull performance of the same.
    These are therefore to Order and fully Impower you Jonathan Knight of Providence afore said To take into your Care and Custody all and Evory parte of the moveable Esstate Chattles and Creadits of your said deceased father Capt. Jonathan Knight above said and on the same fully to Administer: Inall cases what soever as neede shall Require as far as the Law Impowereth an administrator to doe.
    Given Att a Towne Councill held att Providence aboves the 19th day of August Anno Dom: 1717 And In the fourth yeare of his Majestyes Reign George King of Greate Britan & C:
    Signed and sealled by order of the Councill and on there behalfes.

DEATH: Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island Austin 330 - 331
Oct. 4, 1756 Will-prove 1762, Sep. 29. Ex. son Benjamin. To wife Martha, the best room,negro girl Phillis, bed,chest,two cows and keep of same by executor, a riding horse, and all things suitable provided for her by executor while widow. If she marries again only the bed and chest to her, the rest returning to executor, except the negro girl, who was to go to daughters Dorcas and Elizabeth, egually. If the negro girl had children, the oldest boy was to be given son Benjamin and any other children of said negro girl were to go to children of testator. To son Jonathan, £5, he having already had. To son Ezra, £100, in movables. To son Phillip, 53 acres, dwelling house and feather bed. To son Andrew, £300, and he to be brought up to learning till fifteen and then put to such trade as he choose. To daughter Dorcas Knight, £5. To daughter Elizabeth Knight, two feather beds, case of Drawers, oval table, and cow. To son Benjamin, the rest both real and personal.

July 12, 1717 He deeded to brothers Richard and Robert, 100 acres each, where they dwell, and to each a share of &, stating that their father Jonathan died intestate, without having made these deeds. On the same date he deeded to brother Joseph of Kings Town, 240 acres there.

Oct 4, 1750 He deeded eldest son Jonathan, for love &c, 57 acres and dwelling house were son lives. A few years later he deeded his homestead to son Benjamin and land to son Philip also.

Voated and ordered that Richard Waterman give a Letter of Administration unto Mr Jonathan Knight were by he may Lawfully Administer upon the Estate of his father Capt. Jonathan Knight, deceased and also take Bond for his true performance of the same; and all in behalf of ye council.
