Thomas1), born 21 August 1696 in Glastonbury, Connecticut (Stiles' Wethersfield 2:406); and died 2 July 1772 in Glastonbury, Connecticut (Barbour citing VR 1:39), at age 75 according to his gravestone in Greene Cemetery, Glastonbury (Hale 7). …

    He was Deputy to the General Assembly from 1736 to 1764; auditor from 1737 to 1745, and Justice of the Peace from 1739 to 1772 (HH 27-28). He was made Ensign of the company or trainband in Glastonbury on May 1730 (Col. Recs. 7:281); Lieutenant of the first company in Glastonbury in May 1738 (Col. Recs. 8:164); and Captain of the first company in May 1743 (Col. Recs. 8:546).

    The will of Jonathan Hale of Glastonbury was dated 30 November 1771. It names eldest son Jonathan Hale; sons Elizur Hale, Jr.; David Hale; and Theodore Hale; only daughter Prudence Blake; and daughters-in-law Eunice Parsons and the widow Sarah Woodbridge [daughters of Gideon4 and Hannah4 (Chester) Welles]. Wife Mary Hale is given all of the moveable estate she brought with her at marriage as well as two cows and one cow that Joseph Hollister is keeping for her; plus 'her meet and Bread corn enuf for herself for one year after my decease.' The will was witnessed by Benjamin Hale, Josiah Hale, and Anne Hale, all of whom were in court on 15 Jul 1772 to make oath that they had seen the testator sign the will; as a result, the will was proved 20 July 1772, as noted on its back. The inventory by Jonathan Welles, Timothy Hale, Jr., and Samuel Stratton 'exclusive of allowances made to the widow' came to £156:18:05 on 'July 7th & 8th 1772' and was presented to court 20 July 1772 (Hartford Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 2495)."
