Jonathan Alfred W. ELWELL was b. 4th qtr 1880 at Headington and d. 1967 at Bridge, Kent (bmd). Jonathan A.W. Elwell married Ethel M. COOK 2nd qtr 1919 at Leeds (bmd). W. was Willmott; Jonathan married E.M. Cooke ("Iron Elwells", D. Elfick). Jonathan married Ethel May Cook nee Dudley (H. Richardson). Jonathan (7nov1880-11feb1967) studied at Queens Coll, Oxford, and taught maths and music; in 1912 he went to Constantinople to teach; On the outbreak of war he was interned but escaped with the help of an Armenian whose life he had saved. He then hitch-hiked back to England with only 7 shillings and 6 pence in his pocket. After the war he taught until he began his training for the Anglican priesthood at Ridley Hall; he became vicar of Osbournby, Lincs, and d. 11feb1967 ("Iron Elwells").
