    The author uses the approx. birth year of his brother William's grandson to estimate William's birth year as about 1720 (or earlier) and extrapolates that to Jonathan as well.

    The other clue to his birth year is that he probably joined General Greene's army "about the time of the Revolution". Thus, he may have been several years younger than his brother William.
