Jonathan, son of Roger and Elizabeth (Bartlett) Clapp, of Northampton, and brother of the preceding, was born in 1713; removed to Easthampton being one of the first settlers of the town. He married Submit Strong, and had a large family of children, all of whom married and lived to be over 60 years of age. He was a man of great energy of character, and was prominent in all matters connected with the early settlement of Easthampton. He lived with his uncle, Joseph Bartlett, and helped him carry on the ancient mill. Mr. Bartlett, having no children of his own, gave the mill to his nephew Jonathan, who also kept a hotel at Easthampton. He was a Major in the militia. He died May 10, 1782, aged 69 years.
