CARTER, Jonathan, s. Jonathan and Damaris, [born] June 7, 1741.
[Note: there is a birth recorded in Leominster of a son James in this family, born 7 Jun 1740, which is exactly one year before the recorded birth of Jonathan. This is possible, but such a coincidence as to be somewhat unlikely. Our confidence that these records are right is not helped when the Carter Genealogy says James 7 Jun 1740 and Jonathan 7 Jan 1741 (presumably 7 Jan 1741/42), suggesting either the published records have a transcription error, or the Carter Genealogy made a clerical error. The age at death suggests a birth in 1736, but this is unlikely since we would expect a baptism in Lancaster which isn't found, so anything this early should probably be discounted. With so many choices, the official record seems the best choice.]
