He was the first settler in Millington society and settled on the west side of Long Pond in year 1704. Probably he went to Colchester with some of the early New London settlers and was favorably impressed with the lands on Long Pond. His home was within the limits of East Haddam. He was one of the petitioners for Millington Society, but was not prominent in town or church affairs.

Joanthans ear-mark for cattle was recorded at New London, August 9, 1696. He settled at Milington, CT, near the northeast corner of Long Pond, in East Haddam, coming from New London, as early as 1704, after the first settlement and was a man of consequence in the town. He also owned land in Colchester, for in 1710 at a town meeting of Colchester it was "further granted to J. Beebe to remove the bounds of his farm further nortward so as to bring the part into Colchester bounds."

    From Loren P Meissner <LPMeissner@@msn.com>

He was a large land holder as the records of Lyme show. The dates of purchase and sale of lands are from 1738 to 1743 and so on. He and Elizabeth were both in their 80's when they were married. Louise Beebe Wilder, in her book on Lucies Beebe of Wakefield, adds a daughter Eleanor but this may or may not be correct.
