    John was the only one who prior to the Revolutionary war figured at all conspicuously in political life. He was vestryman, magistrate, member of the House of Burgesses, and of the Revolutionary conventions. He was sheriff in Henrico County 1778 and 1789 and County Lieutenant, 1779.
