  3.   The sources on this person are sparse and secondary, and it is difficult to find confirming evidence of a more primary nature. According to Source:Hurd, D. Hamilton. History of Worcester County, Massachusetts, Rev. John W. Wheeler is mentioned as working in Shrewbury, possibly around 1847, but assignments are "itinerant ... for two years or less", and the time he was there is not specified exactly. Nor is a wife mentioned. Nor has he been located in the 1850 census yet.

The sources cited on this page indicate he married Nancy Foster, probably based on the marriage record giving the groom's residence as Orange. This is probably correct since the marriage record lists the middle initial W. But as the marriage occurred in Troy, NH, and there is another John Wheeler (apparently no W.) resident in Troy, b. about 1813, at least some people appear to assume Nancy Foster married that John Wheeler, presumably as his first wife before John Wheeler of Troy married 1841 Roxanna Clark (his death record lists Roxanna as his mother, clearly an error given his age). John and Roxanna are found in Troy in the 1850 census.
