    "4. John2 Welles (Gov. Thomas1), born c. 1622 in Burmington, Warwickshire, England (NEHGR 80:288-289); and died before 19 August 1659, probably in Stratford, Connecticut, where he resided (Stiles' Wethersfield states 7 August 1659) when John Davenport, Jr., wrote to Gov. John Winthrop that 'we have lately heard yt Mr Wells, ye Majestreate at Stratford, is dead, of this disease, he complayned of a great burning in his stomach, &c.' (NEHGR 80:303), predeceasing his father by five months. … The will of John Welles was dated 7 August 1659 and proved 19 October 1659. In his will, John alluded to the possibility of his wife going to obtain 'that which is due her in England' (TAG 23:91-93)."
