Facts and Events
Was murdered while trying to arrest a man ‘holding the occupants at bay’ in a house in Newtown. He was given a State funeral. Constable Wallace, died after being shot at a dwelling in Newtown Sydney by one William Tanna who had bn. involved in a domestic dispute. John attempted to talk to the offender who was armed with a rifle and revolver and shot Wallace twice. The offender later was wounded by police and committed suicide in the siege that followed.
