Facts and Events
Name John W Thompson
Gender Male
Birth? Abt 1770 County Tyrone, Ireland
Marriage Abt 1796 County Fermanagh, Irelandto Unknown (25893)
Death? 1849 Cross Creek, Jefferson, Ohio, United States

Age estimated from 1820-40 US Censuses, Cross Creek, Jefferson, Ohio, United States of America.

1810 US census unavailable, but he appears on 1810 tax list in Cross Creek, Jefferson, Ohio Later censuses indicated four of his ten children were born in County Tyrone, Ireland, six born in Ohio. Based on children’s ages, he probably immigrated from Ireland 1805-1809. Thompson is a Scottish name, which fits well with the history of that period. Many Scots were recruited to northern Ireland to work on plantations established by the English. Many subsequently left Ireland for America following religious persecutions and tenant clearings. Several other immigrants from County Tyrone were already settled in Cross Creek township at the time of John’s arrival with his wife and young family. These included other Thompsons but relationships have not yet been proven.

Not indicated on 1820 census as foreign, so assumed naturalized.

His will, probated in 1849 names ten children as well as “my beloved wife.”
