1866 - Birth: John Thom was born on January 1, 1866 in Osprey Township, Ontario. Source is 1901 census and marriage registration. Cannot locate a birth registration for him.

1871 - Census: John 5 was living with his parents Archibald Thom 30 and Sarah Thom 26 and 3 other children: Agnes 7, William 3 and Alexander 1 month in Osprey Township. Ellen Mills, 19 was also living in the household. Source is 1871 Census of Canada.

1881 - Census: John 15 was living with his mother Sarah Thom 36 and siblings Agnes (listed as Ann in the census) 18, William 13, Alexander 10 and Harry 5 in Osprey Township. Source is 1881 Census of Canada.

1891 - Census: On April 6, 1891, John (spelled Joker in this census) 25 was living with his parents Archibald Thom 52, school teacher, and Sarah Thom 44 along with his 5 siblings: Agnes (spelled Agmes in this census) 27, William 23, Alexander 19, Harry (spelled Hary in this census) 15 and Ruth 10 in Armour Township, Muskoka and Parry Sound. 1891 - Marriage: At the end of that year, on December 30, 1891, John Thom 25, Farmer, married Isabella Mitchell 24, at Burks Falls, Ontario. When married, they planned to live in Katrine, Ontario. One of the witnesses was Alex Thom, John's brother, who also lived in Katrine, Ontario at the time. Source is their 1891 marriage registration.

1892 - Birth of Child: On July 26, 1982, John and Isabella Thom were living at part Lot 6, Conc 2, Armour Township when their first child Alma was born. Source is Alma`s 1892 birth registration.

1895 - Birth of Child: On April 20, 1895, John 29, Carpenter, was living with his wife Isabella Thom 29 in Katrine, Ontario when their son James Archibald Thom was born. Source is his birth registration in 1895.

1901 - Census: In 1901, John Thom 35, carpenter, was living with his wife Isabella Thom 35 and their 5 children: Alma 8, Sarah B 7, James A 5, Barbara I 3, Agnes G 1 (incorrectly spelled Agness in this census) in Sundridge. Source is 1901 Census of Canada.

1906 - Census: In 1906, John Thom 39 was living with his wife Isabella Thom 38 and their 6 children: Alma 13, Beatrice 11, James A 9, Barbara 7, Agnes G 5, Charles M 2 in Saskatchewan on 24-36-17-2 (near Archibald Thom's farm on 26-36-17-W2).
