Facts and Events
Much research went into the trail of John Taylor and Susannah Rider(Ryder). There is scant information but there is only one couple named John and Susannah Taylor who had a child named Dorcas Taylor. There are now two accepted applications to the Society of Mayflower Descendants based on this information; that this couple moved some time around 1800 from Yarmouth, MA to Salisbury, New Hampshire. Some mystery remains - why was Susannah called "Sally" in the DAR record? [There was a John Taylor of New Hampshire who had a wife Sally about the same time. Perhaps confusion by the DAR applicant? Maybe somebody assumed John's eldest daughter named after mother? DAR application is not a primary source.] (John Taylor and Sally Jones) Also, in the Salisbury, NH 1800 census they appear to have had 7 children rather than the 5 that are listed in the Taylor Family of Yarmouth. We suspect the NH birth of Hannah who is buried in Center Haverhill Cemetery in NH next to Susannah. Salisbury NH records list a baptism for a "Suky" or "Sukey" in 1802 with the rest (including Hannah), but this is not a boy's name? [Sukey is nickname for various forms of Susan.] The 1976 Mayflower application indicates that there was a child named Ann(e) who was born in 1809, who married Stephen Morse, and then moved to Springfield, MA. [There is an Ann Taylor Morse who died in Mass in 1888, age just under 80, whose death record names her father as John Taylor. But it names no mother, no birthplace, and there are many John Taylors. Serious lack of evidence.] (record 235) References
