Camp Near Cullpepper April 17 1864 Dear Wife-- I received your letter and was glad to here from you and the children

I expect we will have a big fight before long. they are repairing for it. I wont write again for some time as the mail is--- a going to be stoped for--a week or two. But you can write and I will get it as soon as the mail comes in again the regiment has got back but a grat many staid at home Nothing more at present but still I remain your husband John Smith.
