    MR. JOHN SHACKLOCK.
Mr. John Shacklock, a respected resident of Numurkah for the past thirteen years died at his home on Sunday last at the age of 65. Mr. Shacklock was born at Hobart on the 4th July, 1832, and left Tasmania for Victoria in 1844, and was residing in Portland when the terror of that awful day Black Thursday — swept over the land. He has belonged to the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows for the past 34 years. He was an adherent of the Church of England, for which he was an active and energetic worker, and in this connection it will be interesting to note that Mr. Shacklock was confirmed by Bishop Perry in the first confirmation held in Victoria—November, 1848— another year and he would have been here to help celebrate the jubilee of his church in Victoria. Mr. Shacklock has, however, been a sufferer for years at different periods. The last attack of his complaint commenced in October, and since then he has gradually become weaker, until about Christmas he had to take to his bed permanently. Dr. Harbison was called in to consult with Dr. Hoggan, but their united skill could do nothing more than relieve his sufferings temporarily. Mr. Shacklock was a house painter by trade, and the cause of his death was chronic lead poisoning and exhaustion. The funeral, which took place on Tuesday, was largely attended, the members of the M.U.I.O.O.F. following the remains of their departed brother to the place of interment.
