Name Suffix:<NSFX> Sr. REFN: 130305 Ferdinand L. Seick and John J.D. Seick both served their co untry during the Civil War. I don't know just how long Ferdinand served , but my father J.J. D. Sick served three years and ten months. Neit her Ferdinand nor my father were wounded during the war, but Ferdinand wa s in Libby Prison for a time. He was in prison either 59 days and los t 70 pounds, or 70 days and lost 59 pounds. Just which one is correc t I am not sure but even so, he livedto a good old age, somewhere in the ei ghties. But he never gained back one pound of that lost weight, thoug h he seemed to be healthy. John Jacob David Seick died during the spring of 1858 at Po stville, Loagan county, Illinois. I have heard my father tell abou t his father's death and it seems he was missing and it was some time befo re this body was found. No one ever knew how long he had been dead no t how he died. But the supposition was that he was killed by someone. According to my father his father was very well-to-do and w hen he died the court appointed two local men to administer the estat e and takecare of it until the boys were of age, but when they were of ag e it was learned that those two men had made away witheverything, s o the boys got nothing of the father's estate. Ferdinand L. Seick came to Nebraska in 1872 and homesteade d north of what is now Huntley, Nebraska. John J.D. Seick came to Nebraska in September 1880 and home steadedthe next spring having bought a relinquishment from a man who h ad filed on a quarter section and put down a well, built a sod house, an d stable, and broke thirteen acres of ground, then decided he would rathe r go to California. So my father gave him $150.00 to relinquish th e land back to the Government, so he could file on it. Of the five sons born to my grandfater and grandmother Seic k one died when was just over a year old. That was Peter G. Seick. An other, Theodore A. Seick never married,so that left three sons wh o married and had families, George M. Seick and wife had two children , a boy and a girl. Ferdinand L. Seick and wife had six children, thre e boys and three girls. John J.D. Seick had eight children, five girls an d three boys. All the children of Ferdinand and George M. are deadand I ( George M. Seick ) am the only one Unknown of that family of eight and I am up in years having passed by eighty sixth birthday last Februar y 3, 1977. THIS IS ALL I KNOW OF THE HISTORY OF THE SEICK FAMILY. George M. Seick
