From Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I - III by Frank William Shriver John Schley, born 1767, was a descendant of John Thomas Schley, who emigrated from the Palatinate and settled in Maryland in 1745; he was the founder of the town of Frederick, having built the first house there; he was a soldier in the Revolution, etc ., and died in 1790; John Schley, Clerk of Court at the time of his death, was widely known and respected. From Colonial Families in the U.S.A. John Schley, is enumerated in the United States Census, 1790, as the head of a family. He was Judge of the Orphans' Court for Frederick County from 1802 to 1813, and Clerk of the Frederick County Court from 1815 to 1835. He was a member of the Legislature of Maryland in 1809 and 1810. From History Of The Shriver Family, Wytheville; D. A. St. Clair, Printer, 1869, pages 9-12 Extracts From Letters of F. Thomas Shriver. Rachael, the oldest daughter was married to Adam Forney, of Hanover, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Mary, the second was married to John Schley (Frederick City, Maryland). He was a coppersmith, and followed his trade until my uncle Abraham, then Judge of the County, appointed him Clerk of Frederick County. This office he filled so faithfully and acceptably, that he was retained in it all his life. References
