"This sir John Savage killed on John Pauncefote, esquire; whereupon he and his father both were indicted for murther, and arraigned in the king's bench; this sir John Savage the younger as principal, and sir John Savage the elder as accessary, who confessed the fact: but upon mediation of cardinal Wolsey, and Charles earl of Worcester the king's chamberlain, they were pardoned by the king, paying four thousand marks, and convenanting that they would not come into the counties of Worcester or Chester during their lives, without the king's licence under his great seal, privy seal, or privy signet; as appears by the indenture made the 24 day of November, 12 Hen.VIII.1530. Lib. D.pag.179.I. The original now remaining among the evidences at Rock-Savage, 1669. But after, the king under his great seal, dated 12 Junii, 16 Hen.VIII. 1524, gave liberty to this sir John Savage the younger to go, ride, or dwell in any place either in Worcestershire or Cheshire. Lib. D. pag. 172, y."
